How to mass market over the web/traditional media to acquire 10 Million subscribers?

What are the best strategies to mass market globally for new innovative service with a global application? For example how did skype, hotmail and others become such a power ? How to market it? Who will be the partners worldwide? What will be the budgets a new entrant should account for? Cost of customer acquisition for 10 Million subscribers?
Allow me to clarify, what i want to know is that assuming the product has the sterngth and stickiness and right timing. The question is how to exploit the same like Poker.com how did they mass market it Did they use Viral email? What was teh PR strategy? Did they try Google pay per hit meathod? How did they reach the global market ?

To have a decent market response: use marketing's 7 P's and build up a good strategy. That's what Skype and Google do, mostly by setting price to 0. the best acquisition way if you have a great product! and a standard on www!
To have this magic iPod and all web 2.0 things have: allow users to acquire the product, personalize it, invent new ways of using it and enlarge its functional field. Open it enough for people to be able to use it easily and freely. Make it plastic.

Thats interesting now teh question is can you grow as a community based system like Linkedin or others what wil be the sucess of that. The chalange is to do it frugally, the product is there marketing is teh key and what $ would you need or estimate to achieve the goal is the question and how ?

There's no secret bullet. If you have a service that is compelling enough it will catch on by word of mouth or due to buzz. I recall someone telling me about google several years ago, i tried it and it stayed a habit.
